MSK Assessments

Image
Identifying Musculoskeletal Issues Heel pain and discomfort in your feet or lower limbs can affect your mobility and impact your lifestyle. A static musculoskeletal assessment is the first step to identifying the underlying cause of any problem. From this, we can determine the best treatment or therapy. What you can expect from an Assessment During an hour-long assessment we will carry out a series of objective clinical tests to quantify your muscle strength, flexibility, joint range of motion and quality of movement. Considering your medical history and details of any previous injuries or movement problems, we will then provide you with our findings and recommend appropriate solutions. Treatment Plans Your treatment plan might extend from advice on footwear, rehabilitation and strengthening exercises, to referral for physiotherapy or further investigation, or the need for orthoses. Please note, this is a static assessment. We can also offer 3D Gait Analysis to aid in the treatment ...

All About Blisters

A blister is a small fluid-filled cavity beneath the top layer of skin. It is normally caused by either heat or friction and is generally very painful. Blisters will typically heal on their own, but there are things you can do to ease the discomfort and speed up the process. Let’s face it, no-one needs a blister and  heel pain  in there life. Luckily however there are also a number of precautions you can take to stop blisters from occurring. The most common cause of blisters is friction, which can be the result of ill-fitting shoes or working with some tools which repetitively rub against your skin. If you have a blister, there are a number of things you can do to try and ease the pain and discomfort. You can use a plaster to cover the affected area, therefore reducing any further friction to the blister site. You can buy special blister plasters which help protect the blister and keep it clean, we recommend  moleskin plasters . You can use cream to ease the pain of the b...

Everything You Should Know About 3D Gait Analysis

What is a 3D Gait Analysis? 3D gait analysis is the examination of your foot and lower limbs and how they all function together. The foot is a complicated structure comprised of 28 bones, over 200 ligaments and 38 muscles, so its no surprise it might need a little bit of maintenance from time to time.  3D  gait analysis  uses specially designed cameras to measure the sensors that would be attached to your leg at the time of examination. We will use this information to create an accurate 3D model of your pelvis, hip, knee, ankle and foot and calculate precisely how well they are functioning with one another. In doing so, we use the same technology that is used in orthopaedic hospitals, research institutions and even some film studios!  By undertaking a 3D gait analysis, you are allowing your  podiatrist  to accurately assess your lower limbs and look for any abnormalities or asymmetries in your walking or running gait. Upon completing the examination,...

Ingrowing Toenail Treatment

Image
Ingrowing toenails are one of the most common problems we treat at Quest Podiatry. They occur when a piece of nail pierces the flesh of the toe and can be extremely painful. In more severe cases, they can become inflamed or infected. Our podiatrists  are skilled and experienced in assessing and treating ingrowing toenails. What is an ingrown toenail? Ingrown toenails typically occur when the edges or the corners of your nails grow out in the wrong direction and pierce the skin or soft flesh next to the nail. This is most likely to happen on your big toe and could occur for a number of reasons. Ingrown toenails can sometimes be treated at home; however, this is likely to lead to infection, among other problems if treated incorrectly and could end up requiring much more medical attention. The risk of complications is much higher if you already suffer from existing health issues that can cause problems with your feet, low blood pressure or poor circulation, such as diabetes. What are ...

Below are some of the top reasons people visit a podiatrist: You suspect you have a sprain, strain, or broken bone Firstly, if you believe you have broken a bone, please seek immediate medical advice. A strain or sprain could be an injury or from over-exertion. Any pain, redness or swelling could indicate damage, which should be addressed as soon as possible. Ignoring an injury will only make it worse! Your heels are cracked, dry or bleeding In more recent times, there are many foot creams available on the market; however, these products only offer a temporary solution. If your foot is cracked and bleeding, you are at a higher risk of infection. Please seek the advice of a professional as soon as possible.
